Not in Use

2018-2019

This series features objects found at flea markets, assembled and photographed in a studio setting. Flea markets are filled with all kinds of things. Among the antique-looking vases and everyday items still fit for use, there are occasionally objects whose original purpose is completely unknown. Even the sellers often have no idea what they were meant to be. Freed from their intended functions, they seem to exist in a state of playful liberation.
Embracing this sense of freedom, I experimented with these unidentified objects to create compositions that are equally undefined. The resulting images are "something created out of something unknown"—hard to categorize, difficult to assign meaning to, yet perhaps valuable precisely because they can be enjoyed without explanation.
